WATER GELLANT EXTENDERS

INTRODUCTION

Water gellant extenders/stabilizers can be used in certain polymer fluids to extend the upper temperature limits for application, and stabilize the viscosity of the polymer fluid at all temperatures.

OILAID-WE-10

Liquid product which extends the performance of polymer gellants to temperatures 75-100°F above their normal limits. OILAID-WE-10 is designed to retard the thermal, oxidative, and hydrolytic degradation of polysaccharides and cellulose polymers, like those found in Messina's OILAID-WG product line. It is typically loaded from 1 to Þ 4 lb/1000 gal of frac fluid. This is dependent on the temperatures encountered, the gellant concentration, etc, and should be determined by lab testing prior to use in the field.

OILAID-WE-30

Inorganic powder used in select aqueous gelled systems to extend the thermal limits of the system to above 350°F. OILAID-WE-30 retards the oxidative and hydrolytic action on the gellant, enabling it to function at temperatures higher than normally possible. It is used primarily in polysaccharide systems, although other gellant types can also be extended with this product. OILAID-WE-30 performs very well in crosslinked systems as well as linear frac fluids. Typical loading for OILAID-WE-30 is 20 lbs/1000 gal of gelled fluid. The product should be added to the frac fluid after the gellant has been dispersed.

OILAID-WE-40

Alcohol extender used to stabilize guar and polysaccharide derivative fracturing fluids up to 350° F. OILAID-WE-40 is very effective and has been used throughout the industry. It is typically loaded from 5% to 10% by volume of frac fluid.
