WATER GELLANT CROSSLINKERS |
|---|
| INTRODUCTION
Crosslinkers are materials which form complex, high viscosity, pseudoplastic fracturing fluids when added to linear gels. Crosslinking can be achieved on surface or downhole, at low and high pH, and in most polymers depending on the material and concentration of material added to the system. Messina Þoffers a complete line of crosslinking additives for all fracturing applications. |

Versatile liquid crosslinking agent for use with water based polysaccharide frac fluid systems, including fluids gelled with Messina's WG-40, WG-41, WG-49, and WG-50. OILAID-WX-10 is very effective at pH range 7 to 10, and causes an immediate and dramatic increase in system viscosity, and must be added on the fly. OILAID- WX-10 is the recommended crosslinking agent for low to medium temperatures in Messina's THERMA-FRAC system. Loadings typically range from 0.03 to 0.05% (0.3 to 0.5 gpt) by volume of fracturing fluid. The actual loading to be used in a particular situation may vary slightly dependent on the gellant concentration in the fluid. It is important to note with OILAID-WX-10 that loadings should not be increased significantly beyond the recommended range, or fluid system separation and premature break will occur. Liquid organo-metallic crosslinker for base gel solutions of OILAID- WG-41 and WG-49 (polysaccharides). OILAID-WG-14 will crosslink these solution types at a pH range of 3.0 to 7.5. It allows the formation of firm, homogeneous gels for use as fracturing fluids which remain stable for long periods of time. OILAID-WX-14 is normally diluted with IPA prior to addition to the fluid system on-the- fly. Normal loadings of OILAID-WX-14 are 1.5 gpt of a 40 lb gel system, 2.0 gpt in a 50 lb/1000 gal system, and 2.4 gpt in a 60 lb/1000 gal fluid system. The rate and degree of crosslinking is dependent on the fluid pH, concentration, and the other additives present. OILAID-WX-14 produces a slight delay in the crosslinking mechanism. For example, a 50-lb gel will crosslink in approximately 30 seconds at a pH of 5.0, while the same fluid will crosslink in 15 seconds at pH = 7.5. Product Data Sheet |
Liquid delayed crosslinking agent for OILAID-WG-41 fluid systems. OILAID-WX-16 will crosslink in the 6.5 to 9.0 pH range. Crosslinking time with this product is dependant on gellant concentration, base gel pH, temperature, and other additives present. At a pH of 8.5 and fluid temperature of 80°F, full viscosity is developed in 60 to 90 seconds. The same system will take 4 to 5 minutes to reach full viscosity at pH = 7.0. Normal loadings for OILAID-WX-16 are 1.0 to 1.3 gpt added on the fly. Product Data Sheet |
Liquid, temperature-activated crosslinking agent used in high temperature applications. OILAID-WX-30 is stable to 250°C (482°F), and is effective over a pH range of 7 to 11. OILAID-WX-30 will crosslink a variety of polymers, but is especially effective with Messina's polysaccharides OILAID-WG-41 and WG-49. Normal concentration range for this product is 0.54to 0.6 gal / 1000 gal of frac fluid, depending on the gellant concentration. In addition, Messina's OILAID-WXA products may be employed to control crosslink time. Product Data Sheet |
Liquid, specially formulated delaying crosslinking agent used in high temperature applications. OILAID-WX-31 is stable to 250°C (482°F), and is effective over a wide pH range of 3 to 11. OILAID- WX-31 will crosslink a variety of polymers, but is especially effective with Messina's OILAID-WG-41 and WG-49. This product is an excellent selection as crosslinker for high temperature applications. It is one of two crosslinkers utilized for high temperature application in Messina's THERMA-FRAC system. Normal concentration range for this product is 0.5 to 1.15 gal/1000 gal of frac fluid, depending on the gellant concentration. Crosslink time can be retarded or accelerated with a change in pH. In addition, Messina's OILAID-WXA products may also be employed to control crosslink time. |
Liquid, specially designed delaying crosslinking agent used in high temperature applications. As with OILAID-WX-31, this material is stable to 250°C (482°F), and is effective over a remarkable pH range of 3 to 11. OILAID-WX-32 will crosslink a variety of polymers, but is especially effective with Messina's polysaccharide derivatives OILAID-WG-41 and WG-49. This crosslinking agent is normally loaded from 0.5 to 1.15 gpt of frac fluid, depending on the gellant concentration. Crosslink time can be retarded or accelerated with a change in pH. In addition, Messina's OILAID-WXA products may also be employed to control crosslink time. Used for high temperature applications in Messina's THERMA-FRAC system. Product Data Sheet |
Organic acid powdered crosslinker for guar and guar derivatives. OILAID-WX-50 is effective between a pH of 7 and 9.5. Fluid systems crosslinked with OILAID-WX-50 show a dramatic improvement over linear systems in regard to viscosity and sand transport capacity. OILAID-WX-50 is applied segregating a portion of the frac fluid mixing water prior to mixing the gel. OILAID-WX-50 is added to this water and thoroughly mixed. This solution is incorporated into the linear gelled fluid on-the-fly as the system is pumped downhole. Loadings for OILAID-WX-50 may range from 5.0 lb (dry product)/1000 gal of gel at a pH of 7.0-8.0, to 1.2 lb (dry product)/1000 gal at a pH of 9.0. This is best determined by laboratory pilot testing prior to use in the field. Product Data Sheet |
Liquid, excellent crosslinker for guar and guar derivatives in wells with treatment temperatures below 190°F. Effective between pH 8.5-11. OILAID-WX-52, when compared to other commercially available products, produces superior crosslinked viscosities, even at gel concentrations as low as 30 lb/1000 gal. Loadings will vary from 0.3 to 1.0 gpt of frac fluid, dependent of the application. Loadings should be determined by lab pilot tests utilizing the complete fluid system at the appropriate temperature. |
Organic liquid designed to chemically retard (delay) crosslinking time in Messina's THERMA-FRAC system. OILAID-WXA-40 can be used to customize the crosslinking time for each particular application. This is extremely important in order to control pipe friction pressure during fracturing operations. Crosslink time is dependent on fluid temperature, system pH, and gellant concentration in the fluid. Once the fluid is gelled in the frac tanks, and the operator is ready to pump downhole, the fluid crosslink time cannot adequately be altered without detrimental effects to the system performance downhole. Messina's OILAID-WXA-40 has changed that situation. By maintaining a constant pH and crosslinking agent loading while pumping, the system's final viscosity does not change with the addition of WXA-40, it only is delayed to the time desired by the operator. Fluids prepared with OILAID-WXA- 40 show a gradual increase in viscosity until final viscosity is reached downhole. This means that while the fluid is going down the pipe, the proppant is gaining some benefit from the presence of the crosslinker without the friction pressure associated with firm stable crosslinked systems. Another advantage of the retarding effects of OILAID-WXA-40 is the thorough distribution of the crosslinker in the system, ensuring uniform crosslinked gel viscosity once final viscosity is reached. OILAID-WXA-40 should always be used in frac fluids containing 1 - 4% KCl or NaCl water. Systems without salt will show no delaying effects from OILAID-WXA-40. Loadings depend on temperature of the fluid, gellant concentration, system pH, and delay time required. Typically, OILAID-WXA-40 is loaded from 0.4 gpt to 1.5 gpt. The actual loading to be used in the field should be determined by pilot testing. Product Data Sheet |
