SCALE INHIBITORS |
|---|
| INTRODUCTION Many formation brines have high scaling tendencies. Basically there are three types of scale which can form inside production tubulars resulting in a severe decline in production capability and capacity; these are 1) calcium carbonate 2) calcium sulfate and 3) barium sulfate. Removal of scale after it has formed by mechanical or chemical means is difficult, expensive, and not always possible. The use of Messina's scale inhibitors will prevent scale formation and/or buildup in wells or surface facilities. |

Liquid phosphonate scale inhibitor which is effective on all carbonate and sulfate scales, especially in oil and gas production operations. OILAID-SI-20 is recommended for both continuous injection and squeeze applications in both producing wells and surface facilities. It is stable to > 600° F. Typically loaded at 5 to 15 ppm for continuous treatments. For squeeze operations, spearhead with 30 barrels of freshwater, followed by 3 drums of OILAID-SI-20 in 30 bbls of freshwater. This is displaced with 150 bbls of freshwater. As with all products of this type, actual loadings are based on the severity of the scale problem. Product Data Sheet |
Liquid phosphonate scale inhibitor which is effective on all carbonate and sulfate scales, especially in oil and gas production operations. OILAID-SI-44 is recommended for both continuous injection and squeeze applications in both producing wells and surface facilities. It is stable to > 180 °C. Typically loaded at 5 to 15 ppm for continuous treatments. As with all products of this type, actual loadings are based on the severity of the scale problem. Product Data Sheet |
Liquid phosphonic acid-type scale inhibitor which is effective on calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate scales, and magnesium scales in oil and gas production operations. OILAID-SI-45 is recommended for both continuous injection and squeeze applications in both producing wells and surface facilities. Typically loaded at 5 to 15 ppm for continuous treatments. As with all products of this type, actual loadings are based on the severity of the scale problem. Product Data Sheet |
Low molecular weight, liquid polymer scale inhibitor, which is an excellent product for all types of scale. OILAID-SI-47 is water-soluble, and thermally stable to 500°F. It may be applied by continuous injection of both producing wells and surface facilities, as well as by squeezing into the treated formation. Typically loaded from 1 to 10 ppm for continuous treatments. For squeeze operations, spearhead with 30 barrels of freshwater followed by 3 drums of OILAID-SI-47 in 30 bbls of freshwater. This is displaced with 150 bbls of freshwater. The well should then be shut-in for 24 hours. As with all products of this type, actual loadings are based on the severity of the scale problem. Liquid acrylic acid derivative formulated to prevent the deposition of calcium sulfate and calcium carbonate scale. OILAID-SI-60 is designed for use in saltwater disposal wells, waterflood injection, and producing oil wells. When injected ahead of the trouble area, it controls the deposition of scale throughout the system including flowlines and equipment. It is stable and not subject to reversion or hydrolysis to inactive forms. OILAID-SI-60 is particularly effective at high temperatures where polyphosphate-based products are rendered useless. This would apply in deep wells and heater- treaters. Normally, 3 quarts of OILAID-SI-60 per 1,000 bbls of water will control calcium sulfate scale. Slightly higher loadings are usually necessary to control calcium carbonate scale. OILAID-SI-60 is anionic and should not be mixed with cationic additives. Product Data Sheet |
Liquid organic phosphonate concentrate for the control of calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, and barium sulfate scale. OILAID-SI-525 is soluble in most oilfield brines and is stable to 200°F. Its enhanced absorption characteristics provide for long term protection. OILAID- SI-525 is compatible with most stimulation additives, but is not compatible with some crosslinked polymer systems. Tests, therefore, are recommended prior to use in the field. In fracturing operations, a minimum loading of 2 drums per well or producing zone, at a dilution of 1:10 with freshwater, is recommended. In acidizing, OILAID-SI-525 is usually added to the produced water spearhead at a rate of 2 drums per 20 bbls of water, followed by the acid. It can also be added to the acid at 3-5 gpt of acid. OILAID-SI- 525 remains stable in 15% HCl up to 4 days at 160°F. Product Data Sheet |
