PROPPANTS

INTRODUCTION

The objective of any fracturing stimulation treatment is to produce the maximum fracture length and width using efficient fracturing fluids, and produce maximum conductivity in the fracture using the ideal proppant. Fracture conductivity is controlled by prop pack thickness (volume) and proppant quality (roundness, purity, crush strength, etc.). Messina offers a full selection of premium proppants to match any fracturing conditions. Used with Messina's quality line of fracturing fluids, this combination will provide a superior fracturing stimulation treatment.

MIGHTY-PROP

High strength sintered bauxite. MIGHTY-PROP has been carefully screened to remove fines, and because of its strength, less fines are generated during transportation and pumping operations. It is recommended as a frac proppant in wells that exhibit closure stresses from 8,000 to 15,000 psi. It is available in a variety of mesh sizes. S.G.=3.60-3.70.

MIGHTY-PROP-LITE

Intermediate-strength proppant. MIGHTY-PROP-LITE carefully screened to remove fines, and because of its strength, less fines are generated during transportation and pumping operations. It is recommended as a frac proppant in wells that exhibit closure stresses from 7,000 to 12,000 psi. It is available in a variety of mesh sizes. S.G.=3.25.

MIGHTY-PROP-ULTRALITE

Lightweight, intermediate-strength proppant. MIGHTY-PROP- ULTRA-LITE is carefully screened to remove fines, and because of its strength, less fines are generated during transportation and pumping operations. It is recommended as a frac proppant in wells that exhibit closure stresses from 4,000 to 8,000 psi. It is available in a variety of mesh sizes. S.G.=2.75.

SUPER WEL-FRAC

Resin coated frac sand designed to be a strong, highly conductive proppant and provide sand control in fracturing operations. The resin coating, applied to API grade frac sand, dramatically strengthens each grain; and this resistance to crushing prevents loss of permeability in fractures subjected to medium depth/medium closure stress wells. SUPER-WEL-FRAC offers operators a high strength proppant at a fraction of the cost of other intermediate and high strength proppants. In addition, the relatively low specific gravity of SUPER-WEL-FRAC compared to other high strength proppants is important when one considers proppants are sold by weight. This translates to more proppant volume per dollar.

SUPER-WEL-FRAC is available in either a pre-cured (PC) or a curable (C) resin form. Each of these two forms can be manufactured to one of three (3) compressive strength tolerances. This allows the product to function under closure stresses of 5,000 psi, 7,000 psi, or Þ 9,000 psi. The crush resistance and downhole permeability of SUPER-WEL-FRAC is comparable to more expensive proppants, and far exceeds any sand currently in use. Another bonus is that this product is produced to be dust free. S.G.=2.53.

When Messina's curable product, SUPER-WEL-FRAC (C) is used at low temperatures (< 65°C) it may be necessary to use a special surfactant to accelerate the binding of the individual grains. Messina offers SUPER-WEL-SET (W) for water based fracturing fluids, and SUPER-WEL-SET (O) for oil based fracturing fluids. The chemical binder is added to the frac fluid, and pumped along with the proppant. It chemically softens the resin and the surfactant contained in the SUPER-WEL-SET binds the proppant into a solid pack. Bonding is not only advantageous for control of proppant flowback, but also helps reduce proppant embedment.

WEL-FRAC

API grade frac sand available in a wide range of mesh sizes, for use in hydraulic fracturing operations. WEL-FRAC is a very clean sand, with extremely low fines content. It is available in a wide variety of particle sizes, all according to the current API specifications. Applicable to above 5,000 psi. WEL-FRAC meets all API specifications for gravel pac sand. S.G.=2.65.

WEL-PAC

API grade gravel pack sand available in a wide range of mesh sizes, for use in hydraulic fracturing operations. WEL-PAC is a very hard, high compressive strength, clean sand, with extremely low fines content. It is applicable to in all situations where excellent capillary action and a high flow rate are required. It is available in a wide variety of particle sizes, all according to the current API specifications. Applicable to approximately 5,000 psi. WEL-PAC meets all API specifications for gravel pac sand. S.G.=2.65.

MIGHTY-PAC

High strength sintered bauxite used in gravel packing operations. MIGHTY-PAC has been carefully screened to remove fines, and because of it's strength, less fines are generated during transportation and pumping operations. This product finds a special application in steam injection (stimulation) wells under which the normal silica sand gravel packing materials tend to dissolve under high temperature and high pH conditions.

Z-PROP

High strength, high sphericity, fused zirconium proppant for use in hydraulic fracturing operations. Z-PROP is a unique material because it provides improved conductivity and compressive strength over sintered bauxite, while it's specific gravity is substantially lower (3.17) than bauxite (3.65). Z-PROP is applicable in wells with closure stresses up to 12,000 psi. It is available in a variety of mesh sizes. S.G.=3.17.
