PARAFFIN CONTROL AGENTS

INTRODUCTION

Paraffins are a major problem in the production of some crude oils. Although paraffins usually remain in solution in the formation, as the oil is produced some of the light ends are lost which can alter the crystalline pattern of the paraffin allowing it to precipitate and/or create a paraffin wax due to temperature changes. Messina's paraffin inhibitors (dispersants) are used to dissolve paraffin deposits at or near the wellbore, and treat the paraffin in the reservoir to keep it in suspension. The use of "paraffin control" agents and systems can eliminate the need for costly workovers.

OILAID-PC-10

Liquid, complexed blend paraffin solvent and inhibitor designed to remove paraffin accumulation in downhole equipment and surface flow lines. In addition, OILAID-PC-10 will help prevent the formation of paraffin when used in continuous applications. It is dispersible in both water and brines. For general cleanup, the typical loading for OILAID-PC-10 is 5-25 gallons added to the annulus and circulated for 8-24 hours. When used in continuous applications, the product is normally run at 50-100 ppm. Flowline treatments can be batched or slugged with 1 drum of OILAID-PC-10 depending on the length and diameter of the lines. OILAID-PC-40 is very effective in cleaning tank bottoms when used with a demulsifier.

OILAID-PC-628

Liquid blend of oil soluble solvents and surfactants to remove and prevent paraffin deposition in a variety of oilfield applications. When added properly to an oil producing system (before wax crystallization takes place), it can control paraffin deposition from the point of injection throughout downstream facilities. It is designed primarily for squeeze applications, but may be used in a continuous injection system. However, it has a relatively high pour point which makes its use in the field difficult except in warm climates, unless the pour point is lowered by dilution with a compatible hydrocarbon solvent. It may be applied in a variety of ways - placed down the annulus of pumping wells, added to the power oil down stream from the power-oil tank in sub-surface hydraulic systems, and injected upstream of problem areas in surface and sub-surface equipment. It is important to note that OILAID-PC-628 cannot be atomized into a gas-lift stream. The amount of OILAID-PC-628 necessary and volume of overflush necessary depends on the production rate, and the severity of the paraffin problem. For squeeze operations, check the system for possible clay swelling and emulsion formation in the presence of this inhibitor.
