CLAY STABILIZERS

INTRODUCTION

Clays exist in most sandstone formations, and most are damaging to the formation, i.e. 1) damage caused by clay swelling or, 2) damage caused by clay migration. Blends of HCl:HF acids will dissolve clays, however, seldom will the treatment cover the huge surface area which clays have. Clay stabilizers react with clays either by 1) de-sensitizing them to swelling and migration or 2) coating them or fusing them rendering them immobile. Clay stabilizers have contributed to increased production and sustained production in many wells throughout the world.

OILAID-CS-1

Crystalline salt which de-sensitizes and stabilizes clay formations which contain swelling clays. OILAID-CS-1 is designed for use in treating wells that produce from water sensitive formations. OILAID- CS-1 can be used in drilling, completion, gravel packs, fracturing and stimulation fluids to reduce formation damage from hydratable clays. It is environmentally safe and has no temperature limitations. Typically loaded from 3 to 10%, mixed in treating water.

OILAID-CS-10

A liquid cationic polyelectrolytic amine clay inhibitor for use in well stimulation treatments. OILAID-CS-10 stabilizes the troublesome swelling or migrating clays typically found in producing and injection wells. Use of OILAID-CS-10 helps ensure excellent retention of formation permeability. Typically loaded from 2 to 5 gal/1000 gal stimulation fluid.

OILAID-CS-20

Inorganic metallic salt solution capable of stabilizing and fixing clay particles and holding them together so that they will not move again - even when exposed to an extreme dispersing condition. By stopping the movement of these migrating clays, OILAID-CS-20 prevents formation damage to clay-bearing zones. OILAID-CS-20 may be used with dilute acid, acidic brine, or alcohols. It can be used in either matrix or fracture operations. Loadings are dependent on types and amounts of troublesome clays present.

OILAID-CS-30

Liquid cationic polyelectrolytic amine used to inhibit swelling, cleavage, and dispersion of in-situ clays in formations subjected to fracture treatments with water based fluids. OILAID-CS-30 is compatible with most crosslinked fluid systems, and is effective to extreme temperatures. Typically loaded from 3 to 5 gal/1000 gal fracturing fluid, high temperature applications.
