CORROSION INHIBITORS |
|---|
| INTRODUCTION
Gases such as oxygen, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen sulfide are corrosive to wellbore tubulars and other metals. These gases may result from treating fluid interaction with formation waters or hydrocarbons, or may be naturally occurring. Messina corrosion inhibitors are formulated to eliminate corrosion problems. |

Water soluble liquid amine inhibitor designed to reduce corrosion in refinery overhead systems. OILAID-CI-500 also helps reduce fouling of inorganic deposits associated with ammonium-type neutralizers. It protects against corrosion caused by local pitting. This often occurs in overhead exchangers of distillation units where corrosion begins. OILAID-CI-500 enhances the performance of film-forming inhibitors, and in some instances reduces corrosion by itself. In addition, OILAID-CI-500 combines with the often-present mineral acids to form salts which are characteristically more oil soluble than the fouling salts formed when ammonia-based neutralizes are employed. This product is normally run through a positive displacement chemical pump ahead of any existing areas where potential corrosion is a problem. OILAID-CI-500 may also be pumped into the crude charge in order to neutralize any condensate forming on the vessel walls, top trays, top of the atmospheric fractionator, or the overhead condensers. If this method is utilized to neutralize overhead condensers, the top tower temperature must be 270°F or higher. A loading range of 5 to 8 ppm OILAID-CI-500 is usually sufficient to alleviate any problems encountered when the overhead water chloride content is below 100 ppm. Actual loadings should be determined by tests prior to use in the field. |
An oil soluble filming nitrogen condensate inhibitor designed to reduce corrosion from hydrogen chloride salts in distillation column systems. Severe corrosion is possible in this type of system due to the low pH of the initial condensate (usually 1 to 2). OILAID-CI-501 is normally run through a positive displacement pump. It should be continuously injected into the system ahead of any existing areas where potential corrosion is a problem. The dosage of OILAID-CI-Þ 501 necessary for each application will depend on the acid content of the particular system being treated, and whether any other inhibitors are also being employed. It is highly recommended that a total monitoring system be initiated, but a typical dosage of 3 to 5 ppm will normally alleviate any problems encountered. |
